Women's Golf Team 2011
GOLF (7th/10 at MIAC championships) -- Under head coach Ted Vickerman, Augsburg had one of its most successful fall seasons in school history, finishing in seventh place at the MIAC championships with 1,089 strokes, a school record for a 54-hole event. Augsburg repeated its best-ever team placing in the conference meet, and senior Stefani Zappa became the first Auggie women’s golfer to ever earn multiple All-MIAC honors, finishing in seventh place as an individual (the best-ever individual finish for an Auggie at the MIAC meet). Johanna Frykmark joined Zappa in becoming two of only three Auggies in school history to record top-25 finishes in three MIAC championships. Augsburg has a 376.8 stroke average this season, and its .345 winning percentage (20-38) currently betters last season’s .230 (17-57) mark.
Softball Team 2010
2010 SOFTBALL (21-19 overall, 11-11 MIAC--7th/12) -- Under fourth-year coach Tim Gormley, Augsburg reached the 20-win plateau for the second time in his coaching tenure, and the team's 21 wins are its most since the 1992 season, when it finished 24-12. Augsburg hit .276 as a team with 73 extra-base hits (50 doubles, six triples, 17 home runs), while recording a 3.66 team earned-run average. Augsburg swept Macalester, St. Catherine, Carleton and Hamline in league play, went 5-5 at the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational, and had a nine-game winning streak midway through the season. Augsburg’s 21 wins marked a nine-win improvement over the team’s 12-28 mark in 2009.
M/W Track Team 2010
TRACK AND FIELD (2010 Outdoor: 8th/12 at MIAC championships; 2011 Indoor: 7th/12 at MIAC championships) -- Under 16th-year head coach Dennis Barker, the Auggies have produced two of the top seasons in recent history. Augsburg’s 2010 outdoor squad claimed its best finish in a league meet since 2005 with an eighth-place finish, netting two league champions, five All-MIAC and two All-MIAC honorable-mention placings. Augsburg set three school records in the outdoor season, including a conference-championship 47.88-second time by the 400-meter relay, which became the first Augsburg entrant in the event ever at the NCAA national championships. Shanek Telphia won the conference title in the 100-meter dash and was a part of the league-winning relay. In the 2011 indoor season, Augsburg placed seventh in the MIAC championships, its best finish in the league meet since 2005. Augsburg scored four All-MIAC and three All-MIAC honorable-mention honors, including a championship by the 800-meter relay squad -- Augsburg’s first-ever conference title in the event. Augsburg set two relay school records in the 2011 indoor season.
Volleyball Team 2010
VOLLEYBALL (16-14 overall, 5-6 MIAC--t7th/12) -- Under first-year head coach Jane (Gibbs) Becker, Augsburg finished with a 16-14 record -- its fifth straight double-digit win season and third straight year with 16 or more wins. Augsburg fell one victory shy of gaining a berth in the MIAC postseason playoffs. Augsburg went 3-1 at the St. Mary’s Sugar Loaf Classic to open the season, and earned a trip to the MIAC/IIAC Border Battle for the second straight year, going 2-2 against Iowa conference competition. Eight of Augsburg’s matches went the five-set distance, with the Auggies winning five.
