2013 Auggie Awards - Women's Most Improved Team of the Year Finalists

GOLF (7th/11 at MIAC Championships in 2012 … 11th/11 at MIAC championships in 2011) -- Under fourth-year head coach Ted Vickerman, Augsburg had one of its best seasons in program history in 2012-13, finishing in seventh place at the MIAC Championships, tied for the second-best team finish since the program started in 1991, and a four-spot improvement from its finish in 2011. Augsburg recorded a 1,076 total at the MIAC Championships, a new school record for a 54-hole meet. Augsburg had two individuals finish in the top 25 at the conference meet -- Rachel Kristofferson finished in 17th place and Hannah Shafer finished in 23rd. As a team, Augsburg finished the fall half of the 2012-13 season with a 365.0 team stroke average, a 28.8-stroke improvement from last season’s 393.8 average. Two Auggies had sub-90 stroke averages in the fall half of the season -- Kristofferson's team-leading 85.7 average and Shafer's 89.2 average.

SOCCER (12-5-3 overall, 6-3-2 MIAC--3rd/12 in 2012 … 9-8-1 overall, 6-4-1 MIAC--5th/12 in 2011) -- Under 14th-year head coach Mike Navarre, Augsburg finished 12-5-3 overall, 6-3-2 in MIAC play in 2012, earning a trip to the MIAC postseason playoffs for the first time since 2007. Augsburg's 12 wins are the second-most in a single season in school history. This season, Augsburg reached the MIAC playoff championship game for the first time in its five trips to the MIAC playoffs. The Auggies claimed a 2-1 overtime win at St. Olaf in the MIAC playoff semifinals and tied Concordia-Moorhead 0-0 in overtime in the playoff title game, but fell 7-6 in the penalty-kick shootout. Forward Bri Clark and midfielder Molly Allen earned All-MIAC honors and were both also named to the NSCAA All-North Region squad, Allen as a second-team selection and Clark as a third-team selection. Midfielder Bri Dorale and defender Alekzandra Miller earned All-MIAC honorable-mention honors, with Dorale also being named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

2012 SOFTBALL (20-22 overall, 13-9 MIAC—3rd/12 in 2012 … 20-20 overall, 9-13 MIAC—t7th/12 in 2011) -- Under sixth-year head coach Tim Gormley, Augsburg finished 20-22 overall, 13-9 in MIAC play, qualifying for the four-team MIAC postseason playoffs for the second time since the conference established the four-team postseason tournament in 2004, and the first time since 2008. Augsburg has recorded 20-plus victories in four of the last five seasons, in addition to 10-plus conference victories in four of the last five seasons. Augsburg's third-place finish in the MIAC standings was its best conference regular-season finish since a third-place finish in 1992 (24-12 overall, 16-4 MIAC). Pitcher/third baseman Kylee Persing and shortstop Allyson Ruedy each earned All-MIAC honors, and both were also named to the NFCA All-Midwest Region third team. Outfielder Sammie Wagner earned All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team honors.

SWIMMING AND DIVING (11th/11 at MIAC championships in 2013 … 11th/11 at MIAC championships in 2012) -- Under third-year head coach Kasi Clauson Lange '08, the Augsburg women's swimming and diving team had one of its most successful seasons in the 10-year history of the program. The Auggies finished with 74 team points (its most team points since 2007) and recorded an 11th-place finish at the MIAC Championships in February, setting school records in nine different events at the championships, while recording 18 times that rank among the top 10 in individual events and relays in school history. Augsburg will lose just three seniors to graduation, from a roster that featured four first-years, three sophomores and three juniors this season.
