Michael Jensen

  • Title
    Baseball Assistant Coach/Pitching Coach

Michael Jensen (Augustana, '21) enters his first season on staff with the Augsburg baseball team in 2023.

Playing Experience
Jensen played four years of high school varsity baseball, throwing mare than 500 innings through club baseball with the Blizzard and his high school, Holy Family. He went on to play at the University of Oklahoma in the summer of 2017, but had to transfer out after the 2018 season due to a torn labrum and rotator cuff.

After his injury, Jensen began coaching for the Minnesota Blizzard and transferred to Augustana University, where he declined surgery and focused on rehabilitation, mobility, stem therapy, and stretching. He was able to throw 30-plus collegiate innings in his two seasons as a player at a high level again, until his injuries became too much to deal with.

Coaching Experience
In his third year at Augustana, he transitioned into a volunteer assistant pitching coach role in the spring of 2021.

Jensen has coached and trained over 200 different players in the past few years and specializes in pitching. He has learned from some of the great minds in the current pitching industry today, including Skip Johnson (University of Oklahoma), Bob Zimmerman (Los Angeles Angels / Premier), Casey Jacobson (Chicago Cubs), Caleb Thielbar (Minnesota Twins / Augustana University), Flint Wallace (Colorado Rockies), Brent Strom (Houston Astros), Clayton Kershaw (Los Angeles Dodgers), and Ron Wolforth (Texas Baseball Ranch).

Personal Notes
Jensen's love for baseball began as a child playing catch and "pepper" with his father and reading books about Mickey Mantle and Sandy Koufax. His favorite part about coaching is watching his players take one step at a time on their way to achieving their maximum potential. He believes that every player is different and will learn in different ways, at different speeds, and through different exercises. He finds beauty in the process of building a pitcher up not just physically, but mentally, and making themselves believe that they are always the best player on the field.

Michael is the son of Rod and Lisa Jensen, and he has two sisters, Madeline and Grace. His grandparents are Marlene and Duane Johnson and Sharon and Harold Jensen.
