Adrian Dunn

Adrian Dunn (Bemidji State '09) enters his fifth season as an assistant football coach at Augsburg in 2015, as he serves as the team's defensive line coach and special teams coordinator. In addition to his coaching duties, Dunn serves as an instructor in the Augsburg health and physical education department.

Augsburg Coaching Highlights:
Under Coach Dunn the defensive line has proven to be a force in the MIAC, producing several all conference players that helped the Auggies record steadily rise over recent years. In 2012, the Augsburg first-line of defense was a key piece in their 7-3 record. Sophomore defensive end Chris DeVet, who was second team All-MIAC, anchored the front line. DeVet was third on the team in tackles (52), while leading them in tackles for loss (8.5), and also picked up three sacks. Alongside DeVet, was senior defensive end Aaron Perry, honorable mention All-MIAC, who helped the Auggie defense wreak havoc on opposing offenses. Perry finished 2012 with 41 tackles, six tackles for loss, and six and a half sacks. Also playing a key role in recent succes was defensive tackle Sean Crayne, who had 42 tackles, four and a half for loss and three sacks. 

In Dunn's first season coordinating the special teams, the Auggies saw productive play in all aspects of the "Black Hats." Special teams are made up of 15 athletes who are labeled "Black Hats," and contribute on all the different special teams. Augsburg averaged ten yards per punt return and 18 per kick-off return, which placed them in the top half of the MIAC. Senior kicker Wesley Waytaychek produced big numbers going 45-49, a 92 percent connection rate. Senior punter Chris Elbert averaged over 37 yards per punt with a long of 78 against Gustavus in 2012.  

During his first season as a member of the Augsburg staff, Dunn was a part of one of the most successful seasons in recent history, as the Auggies recorded a 6-3 overall record and finished .500 in league play. On Sept. 24, 2011 Augsburg recorded a thrilling 32-31 last second victory of Saint John's University to earn the program's first road win against the Johnnies in 32 seasons. Defensive end Edmund Smith earned D3football.com All-West Region honors, while defensive lineman Aaron Perry was an honorable mention all-conference selection.

Previous Coaching Experience:
Graduate Assistant- Bemidji State University (2009-10)

Prior to arriving at Augsburg, Dunn served as a graduate assistant coach at Bemidji State University during the 2009 and 2010 seasons under Beaver head coach Jeff Tesch. During his two seasons at BSU, Dunn was a part of a program that recorded a 15-7 overall record. The Beavers placed three first-team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference players, one second-team All-NSIC player and one honorable mention All-NSIC player during Dunn's two season's as an assistant coach with the program.

Playing Career:
Dunn spent two seasons as a member of the Bemidji State program where he played on the defensive line. In 2006, Dunn was a member of the Beaver team that finished the regular season with a 9-3 record and won a Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship whilea earning a school record No. 23 national ranking in the American Football Coaches Association top 25 poll. The Beavers concluded the season by making the school's first-ever bowl game appearance where they faced Pittsburg (Kan.) State in the Mineral Water Bowl. In 2006, Dunn and the Beaver defense lead NCAA Division II in fewest rushing yards allowed per-game

Dunn transfered to Bemidji State from Mendocino Junior College (Northern California) where he was a two-time first-team All-Bay Valley Conference selection and All-State (California Northern Region) selection in 2005.

Family/Personal Notes:
A native of Healdsburg, Calif., Dunn currently resides in Minneapolis. Dunn earned his bachelor's degree in physical education in 2009. Dunn completed his graduate work in sports studies at Bemidji State in 2011.
