Drew Privette (Augsburg '89) begins his 25th season as an Augsburg coach in 2016. He serves as an assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. In addition to his coaching duties, Privette serves as the co-director of athletic merchandising for the Augsburg athletic department.
Augsburg Coaching Highlights:
In 2012, Privette directed an offense that produced a league-high 38 points per game and 471 yards per game. QB Ayrton Scott ended the season as the nations #3 leader in total offense behind the tutoring of Coach Privette. The Auggies 2012 offense produced one All-American (Adam Carl), four All-West Region players (Adam Carl, Aryton Scott, Brian Rud, Hakeem Bourne-McFarland) and landed seven players on the All-Conference lists.Â
Privette is the director of the highly explosive Air Auggie Spread offense which has ranked first in the MIAC since being taken over by coach Privette in 2007. Augsburg’s offense set the MIAC record for most passing yards in 2008 with a single-season record of 3,041 total yards. The Auggie’s finished the 2008 season as the first-ranked passing offense in the MIAC, the number one ranked red zone offense in MIAC and the second-ranked scoring offense in the MIAC. In 2007, the Air Auggies also ranked first in the MIAC in passing offense and third in the MIAC in total offense. The Air Auggies have also received national acclaim, ending the 2008 season as the 5th/235 most prolific passing attack in the entire NCAA Division III (325 ypg) and the 2007 season as the 3rd/235 most prolific passing attack in NCAA Division III (344 ypg). In 2011, first-year running back Tyler Maxwell earned All-MIAC honors and set a school record with 13 rushing touchdowns.
Coach Privette has also been responsible for the development of three of the best quarterbacks in MIAC and school history: Derrin Lamker (1996-97), Jordan Berg (2005-08), and Marcus Brumm (2009-11). Lamker and Berg were finalists for the NCAA III Player of the Year award their respective senior seasons while Lamker was named the MIAC Most Valuable Player his senior season.Berg is the MIAC all-time record holder for passing yards in a season (7,414), while Lamker finished his career with 6,624 yards. In just three seasons at Augsburg, Brumm finished second in school history in every career passing category, while also rushing for 472 yards and seven touchdowns. Augsburg’s fourth all time passer, Paul Tetzloff (1996-00) (5,144 career yards) was also mentored under coach Privette.
Privette also has developed current Auggie quarterback Ayrton Scott into one of the nations top dual threat weapons. Scott led the MIAC in total touchdowns, rushing yards per game and total offense. Scott was third in the nation in total offense, eighth in rushing, while accumulating a school record 1,436 yards on the ground.Â
As a recruiting coordinator, coach Privette has excelled in the highly competitive MIAC. Since he took over the position in 1993 he has brought in 46 first team All-MIAC performers and 12 NCAA Division III All-Americans. Coach Privette is known as a player first coach and recruiter.

Playing Experience/Achievements:
On the football field, Privette was a standout receiver for Augsburg and twice was named to the All-MIAC team. Privette set several Augsburg receiving records, two of which -- career receptions (146) and catches in a game (14) -- stood until 1997, when they were broken by Scott Hvistendahl. Privette finished his career with 146 pass receptions and 1,792 career reception yards. His 54 receptions in 1987 is sixth-best in school history. Privette was also an All-MIAC right winger for the Auggies' men's hockey team. In 2009, Privette was inducted into the Augsburg Athletic Hall of Fame in his first year eligible for the honor.
