Rich Wilkie (North Dakota '89) joined the Augsburg football coaching staff in 2020 as an assistant coach, bringing 32 years of experience to the Auggies.

Previous Coaching Experience:
Wilkie spent 18 seasons (2002-19) as head coach at Andover High School, coaching there since the school's opening in 2002. Teams he coached won Minnesota section titles five times (2007, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017), and was selected as Section Coach of the Year five times. He coached 11 players who went on to play Division I football, 26 Division II players and 37 Division III players. His teams earned Academic All-State honors in 15 of his 18 seasons, with team GPAs above 3.00.

He began his coaching career in 1988, coaching the quarterbacks at Grand Forks (N.D.) Central under Hall of Fame coach Mike Berg. He then spent 10 years (1989-99) at his alma mater, Jamestown (N.D.) High School, coaching the offensive and defensive lines. He coached quarterbacks and wide receivers at Coon Rapids (Minn.) High School from 1999 to 2001. Wilkie has also worked with National Football Academies and its quarterback training program since 2012. 

Playing Experience:
Wilkie played collegiately at the University of North Dakota as a tight end under legendary coach Roger Thomas. 

Personal/Family Notes:
He earned his bachelor's degree in social sciences from North Dakota in 1989, and his master's degree in education studies from Saint Mary's University in 2002. He has worked as a social studies teacher in the Anoka-Hennepin School District for 23 years, currently teaching criminal justice and political science at Andover High School.

Coach Wilkie has three sons -- Scott, Michael and Connor -- and two grandchildren, and lives in Brooklyn Park, Minn.
