Marty Mjelleli enters his 11th season of coaching in 2019-20, his first at Augsburg University. He spent previous seasons at Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League and St. Olaf College.

Mjelleli played baseball and hockey at Shattuck St. Mary’s High School in Faribault, Minn., where he helped lead the hockey team to win the 2001 USA national championship. In junior hockey, he was a captain with the Des Moines Buccaneers, garnering 2004 USHL All-Star team honors, and becoming a member of the Buccaneer Hall of Fame.

A Cum Laude graduate of St. Cloud State University, Mjelleli played for the Huskies from 2004-08. He received NCAA Hockey Humanitarian recognition, was a three-time WCHA All-Academic team member and was named to the All-America First Team for the Lowe’s Senior Class Award. In 2016 he received the Graduate of the Last Decade Award for SCSU.

Mjelleli would later play professionally for the Johnstown Chiefs of the East Coast Hockey League, an affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. He finished his career in Europe while playing in the Netherlands and Germany.

He currently resides in Bloomington, Minn., with his wife Shannon and their children, Milania and Rocco.
