James See (Augsburg ‘09), one of the best midfielders to ever play at Augsburg, is in his second stint on the Auggie men’s soccer coaching staff, returning in 2016. He previously served as a volunteer assistant coach in the 2009 season and as the program’s graduate assistant in 2016 before assuming a volunteer role in 2017.
Previous Coaching Experience/Achievements
Since coaching at Augsburg, See has earned plenty of coaching experience both in club and high school soccer. He currently serves as the head boys coach at his alma mater, the Academy of Holy Angels, leading the Stars to a 52-4-3 record over three seasons, including three Tri-Metro Conference titles, two Section 3A titles, a 4th place finish in the 2018 MSHSL A State Tournament, and the program’s first MSHSL A State Championship in 2019 finishing the season 21-0-1. In 2019, See received United Soccer Coaches Private/Parochial Minnesota State Coach of the Year, Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year, and National Coach of the Year honors. Prior to his time at Holy Angels, the three-time section coach of the year recipient, See served as the head girls soccer coach at Shakopee High School were he coached his squad to the 2012 Missota Conference title and earned Section 2AA Coach of the Year honors in 2015.
In the club arena, James works with the Tonka-Fusion Elite soccer partnership in the West Metro with their 2006 & 2007 boys teams. James holds prior experience as a youth coach for the Minnesota Thunder Academy ECNL Girls program, Bangu Tsunami Futbol Club, and as a Director of Player Development at Bloomington United Soccer Club.
Playing Experience/Achievements
As an Auggie, See earned All-MIAC first-team honors in 2006, 2007 and 2008, while also earning National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas All-Far West Region third-team honors in 2008. He was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player and Auggie Award-winner in 2007 and 2008, as a captain for the Auggies’ NCAA Division III national tournament squad. He was a part of teams that went 41-25-12 in his career, reaching the MIAC postseason playoffs twice.
See appeared in 72 games in his Auggie career, starting 65, with two goals and six assists for 10 career points, including one game-winning goal.
Personal Notes
A native of Richfield, Minn., See earned bachelor's degrees in psychology and sociology at Augsburg in 2009 and his master's degree in education at Augsburg in 2017. See holds a teaching license in emotional/behavioral disabilities and is a special education teacher at Sunset Hill Elementary School in the Wayzata School District.
