James Agre (Augsburg '72) was a central defender for the Augsburg soccer team during the first four years of its existence (1968-1971). He started every match during his four year soccer career at Augsburg. Agre was selected as MIAC all-conference in 1969, 1970, and 1971 and was captain of the team in 1970 and 1971. While attending the University of Minnesota Medical School, he was head coach of the Augsburg soccer team in 1974 and 1975. In 1974 he was named NAIA District 13 soccer Coach of the Year, when the team reached the NAIA regional final against Quincy College. From 1976 through 1981, while at the University of Minnesota Medical School, he was the assistant coach at Augsburg.
He holds a National B License from the United States Soccer Federation.
Since coaching at Augsburg, he also coached the Conserve (High) School, Land O'Lakes, Wisconsin, boys soccer team from 2002-2007.
James graduated from Augsburg in 1972 with majors in chemistry and biology. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1976 and also received a PhD from the University of Minnesota Graduate School in 1985. He is Board Certified in the medical specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He has worked as a specialist in this field from 1979 to the present. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is also a Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine.
