Personal:
Tom Homa (Illinois ’16) is on the Augsburg men's soccer coaching staff for his second season in 2018. He arrived in July of 2017 and recruited a class of 13 players for the 2018 season. Additionally, he coached two youth teams at BV United and received Male Coach of the Year honors in 2018.
Prior to arriving at Augsburg, Homa was a student-athlete for four years on the men's club team at the University of Illinois, which does not sponsor a men's NCAA Division I program. As president and player-coach of the club, he led the team to two national tournament appearances during his last two fall seasons (2014-15). Homa was also a manager and practice player for the women’s NCAA Division I team at Illinois, followed by serving as a national teams camp coordinator for U.S. Soccer. Additionally, he worked in consulting in Chicago for one year after graduating from Illinois.
At Morton HS (Ill.), Homa played varsity soccer for three years and received first team all-conference, area senior all-star, and Morton HS Soccer "Mr. Hustle" honors during his senior year, when his team set school records for most wins and goals in a season, finishing 21-4 with 103 goals. His Morton teams won the Mid-Illini conference title all four seasons of his high school career.
Homa grew up in Central Illinois and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Leadership degree at Augsburg. He holds a USSF National D Coaching License.
Homa says: "We use soccer as a vehicle to change the lives of our players, staff, and coaches through discipline and value-based decision-making and to develop an enduring sense of community surrounding our program. We work to serve others through the platform of college athletics. Our mantra 'For You. For Soccer. For Life.' describes how we run our program every single day, how we prepare our players for college and the rest of their lives, and how we create lifelong connections among the players, staff, alumni, and their families. Playing college soccer was an incredible experience, and I want to help others have something similar by using the game to empower them to impact the world in whatever ways they desire."
