Ryland Luciano (Edinboro ‘17) enters his second season as a graduate fellow on the Augsburg women’s lacrosse coaching staff in 2020-2021.
Previous Coaching Experience/Achievements
Ryland came to Augsburg after working as the head coach for the Hamburg (Germany) Warriors women’s lacrosse for the 2018-2019 season. In his one season abroad, he coached the Warriors to their most successful season in over a decade, leading them to their best record (10-2) and first national championship game appearance since 2008. The Warriors ranked 1st in the country in scoring offense and 2nd in defense. The team also won 1st place at the Budapest New Year’s Cup. Additionally, Ryland undertook rebuilding the youth boys’ lacrosse program in Hamburg.
Prior to coaching in Germany he was the assistant women’s lacrosse coach at the Maine Maritime Academy for the 2017-2018 season. As an assistant he helped coach the young NCAA Division III program to its winningest season to date and their second consecutive North Atlantic Conference playoff berth. Ryland was responsible for training the goal keepers and coached the conference leader in goals against average and save percentage.
From 2015-2017 Ryland was a volunteer assistant coach for the NCAA Division II women’s lacrosse team at Edinboro University while completing his undergraduate degree.
Playing Experience
During his time at Edinboro he was also a 4-year starter as a long stick midfielder on the men’s club lacrosse team. The 3-year captain helped lead the team to its first and second ever NCLL playoff appearances as a junior and senior.
Personal Notes
Ryland graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Secondary English/Special Education from Edinboro University and is pursuing a Master of Arts in Leadership at Augsburg University.
