Nathan Knox (Macalester ‘04), a member of the Minnesota Thunder professional soccer team, enters his first season on the Augsburg coaching staff.
A native of Christchurch, New Zealand, Knox played his collegiate soccer at Macalester, earning MIAC Player of the Year honors in 2003. He was an All-MIAC selection in 2001, 2002 and 2003, and earned NSCAA Division III All-America honors in both 2002 and 2003. He finished his collegiate career with 20 goals and 15 assists (both ninth in Macalester history) for 55 points (10th in school history).
He was signed by the Minnesota Thunder, a United Soccer Leagues First Division team, in 2006. He later played for the USL’s Seattle Sounders (2007) and Atlanta Silverbacks (2008), before returning to the Thunder in a trade midway through the 2008 season. During his collegiate years, he spent his summers playing for Rangers (2003) and Canterbury United (2004-05) in his native New Zealand.
A 2004 Macalester graduate, he has previously served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, in addition to serving as an assistant coach at Minneapolis South HS.
