Jane Becker (St. Thomas '04) has served as the head Augsburg University volleyball coach since the 2010 season.

In her tenure at Augsburg, Becker has guided the Auggies to prominence in the MIAC, one of the toughest NCAA Division III volleyball conferences in the country. Under Becker, Augsburg has recorded at least 16 wins every year, while qualifying for the MIAC postseason playoffs six of the last eight years. In 2013 and 2014, the Auggies were crowned MIAC regular-season co-champions and became an NCAA national tournament qualifier, while Becker was named MIAC and AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year in both seasons. Augsburg also claimed the MIAC regular-season crown in 2016. 

Augsburg Coaching Highlights:
2022: Led the team to a 17-8 overall record and 6-5 mark in MIAC play, earning the program's fourth straight MIAC playoff appearance.
2021: Led the team to a 15-13 overall record and 6-5 mark in MIAC play, earning the program's third straight MIAC playoff appearance. 
2020-21: Led the team to 6-2 overall record, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. 
2019: Led the team to 23-7 overall record and 8-3 MIAC mark, reaching the MIAC playoff semifinals and a birth in the NCAA national tournament. Middle blocker Corrina Evans earned AVCA All-American third team honors and outside hitter Kayla Gjerde earned honorable-mention honors, while both earned AVCA All-Region first team honors. 
2018: Led the team to 22-9 overall record and 7-4 MIAC mark, reaching the MIAC playoff semifinals and a birth in the national tournament. Libero Macey Terhell and Setter Morgan Malley earned AVCA All-American honorable-mention honors as well as AVCA All-Region First team honors.
2017: Led team to 19-12 overall record and 7-4 MIAC mark, reaching the MIAC playoff semifinals. Libero Macey Terhell repeated as MIAC co-Defensive Player of the Year and was named an AVCA All-Region honorable-mention honoree. Middle hitter Taylor Linn was named AVCA All-Region and an AVCA All-American (second team) honoree, and setter Morgan Malley earned AVCA All-Region honorable-mention honors.
2016: Led team to 18-10 overall record and perfect 11-0 MIAC mark, winning the conference regular-season championship. Becker earned MIAC Coach of the Year honors for the third time. Libero Macey Terhell was named MIAC Defensive Player of the Year and earned AVCA All-Region and All-America (honorable mention) honors, joining middle hitter Taylor Linn, who also earned the AVCA honors.
2015: Led team to 19-9 overall record and 5-6 MIAC mark. Right-side hitter Ashley Peper became the first Auggie to ever be named to the All-MIAC team all four years, while also becoming the first Auggie to earn AVCA All-Central Region and AVCA All-America (second team) three times each. Augsburg went 4-0 at its own Augsburg Invitational and went 3-1 at the Massachusetts-Boston Invitational.
2014: Led team to 23-6 overall record and a second consecutive MIAC Championship and NCAA national tournament bid. Becker was again named MIAC and AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year in 2014. Three players were named AVCA All-Americans, with Ashley Peper repeating her first-team selection from a year ago, while outside hitter Colleen Ourada repeated as a third-team selection. Setter Courtney Lemke was an honorable-mention All-American for the first time. The volleyball team also embarked upon its second-ever international trip, a nine-day competition, training and educational trip to Nicaragua.
2013: Led team to 29-5 overall record, the most wins since 1985 and first ever MIAC Championship. The Auggies earned an NCAA National Tournament bid for first time since 1982 and Becker was named MIAC and AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year. Three players were named AVCA All-Americans -- right-side hitter Ashley Peper named to the first team, setter Emily McCourt named to the second team, and outside hitter Colleen Ourada named to the third team. The Auggies dominated competition all year, recording 23 three-set sweeps, and lost a total of only 21 sets on the season.
2012: Led team to 16-12 overall record, Augsburg's seventh straight double-digit win campaign and fifth straight year with 16 or more victories. Augsburg went 3-1 against tough competition at the season-opening Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational, then went 4-0 to claim the tournament title at its own Augsburg Invitational for the first time since 1985. Augsburg claimed conference three-set sweeps of Gustavus, Macalester and Hamline, while while also recording a 3-1 win over St. Mary's and a 3-2 triumph at St. Olaf.
2011: Led team to 16-12 overall record and fifth-place finish in the MIAC regular season standings; earned school's second-ever MIAC postseason tournament berth; defeated Bethel University in a five-set match on Sept. 28 to break an 11-match road losing streak to the Royals; 7-4 conference record marks the highest conference win total in school history since 1985.
2010: Recorded 16-14 overall record and fell one game short of qualifying for the MIAC post-season tournament; earned first win as Augsburg head coach on Sept. 1, 2010 in 3-0 win over Northland College.

Prior to coming to Augsburg, Becker led a dramatic turnaround of the Luther College volleyball program during her three-year tenure as head coach (2007-09), leading the Norse to their first-ever NCAA Division III national tournament berth in 2009. As head coach at Luther, Becker took over a team that had finished 3-29 in 2005 and 3-27 in 2006, and her hiring immediately paid dividends. The Norse finished 15-15 in 2007, improving three spots in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings. The following year, her squad finished 19-15, finishing fourth in the IIAC standings and qualifying for the conference tournament for the first time since the postseason meet had changed to a six-team format in 2005.

In 2009, the Norse had one of their best seasons in school history, finishing 26-12 overall -- the school’s best record since 1993 -- while finishing second in the IIAC and advancing to the NCAA Division III national tournament for the first time in school history. In the national tournament, the Norse opened with an upset win over No. 15-ranked St. Benedict before falling to her alma mater, St. Thomas, in the second round. She was named the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Coach of the Year in 2009.

After graduating from St. Thomas in 2004, Becker served as an assistant coach at Division I Gardner-Webb (N.C.) for two seasons, and was an assistant coach at Division III Wisconsin-River Falls in the 2006 season.

Playing Experience/Achievements:
Becker (formerly Gibbs) was a two-time American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III All-American (2002, 2003) as a setter at the University of St. Thomas, earning All-MIAC honors each of her four seasons (2000-03). She was named MIAC Player of the Year in 2003, and set four school records for assists during her tenure. Teams she played on finished 97-31 in her career, winning MIAC regular-season titles in 2002 and 2003.

Becker serves as the director of community service/engagement for the Augsburg athletic department.

Personal/Family Notes:
Jane and her husband Jon, a former baseball player at the University of Minnesota, reside in Afton, Minn. with their three children, George, Etta and Annie. A native of Lakeville, Minn., Becker earned her bachelor’s degree in philosophy and Spanish from St. Thomas in 2004, and her master’s degree in sport science and pedagogy from Gardner-Webb in 2006.
