Don Stoner

Don Stoner (Wisconsin-Oshkosh '91) has served as Augsburg University's sports information director since the fall of 1997. The sports information department is in charge of all public relations efforts involving the university's intercollegiate varsity athletic teams. 

In the summer of 2021, Stoner was named as the 19th recipient of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Mike Augustin Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to MIAC athletic programs and their student-athletes by members of the media or athletic communicators.

A member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Stoner served for 19 years as a member of the Academic All-America Committee, and has served since 2019 on the Special Awards Committee. He chaired the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sports information directors committee from 2001-03.

Stoner has also been active as a freelance worker for numerous sports organizations during his Augsburg years. He has been a part of the game-night statistics and scorer's table crew for the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves since 1999 and WNBA's Minnesota Lynx since 2000, currently serving as a scoreboard operator for both teams. He has worked at many state tournaments for the Minnesota State High School League since 2011, including serving as chief statistician for the Minnesota state softball tournament for more than a decade. He also worked with the Minnesota Swarm indoor lacrosse team for three years as a statistician.
 
He has also been a volunteer for 27 NCAA Division I national or regional championship events in eight different sports hosted by the University of Minnesota over the years, including two men's basketball Final Fours (2001, 2019), four men's hockey Frozen Fours (2002, 2011, 2018, 2024), three women's hockey Frozen Fours (1998 AWCHA, 2001, 2013), the 1999 men's golf national championships, the 2018 women's volleyball national championships and the 2022 women's basketball Final Four. He also assisted his alma mater, Wisconsin-Oshkosh, on the media relations staff for eight NCAA Division III baseball national championships, and has worked at the 2011 Division III men's hockey national championships and Division III outdoor track and field national championships in 1998 and 2007.

Stoner was a newspaper reporter in Minnesota and Wisconsin for several years before moving into collegiate athletics. Stoner also served as the MIAC's SID during the 1997-98 school year. A native of Somerset, Wis., Stoner is a 1991 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
