It wasn't the finish Augsburg would have wanted, but Simpson pulled away early and did not let the Auggies into the playoff contest, played in rainy, sloppy conditions in southern Iowa.
Simpson built a 34-14 halftime lead, and Augsburg cut the advantage to 34-21 on a pass from
Derrin Lamker to
Scott Hvistendahl, but it was as close as the Auggies would get.
Lamker and
Thane Drier had Augsburg's other touchdowns. Hvistendahl caught 10 passes for 157 yards, while
Ted Schultz caught seven for 86. Lamker completed 27 passes for 280 yards.
On defense,
Bob Schultz closed out his career with an impressive, 14 tackle performance, including an incredible 10 solos.
Jake Kern picked off his ninth pass of the year, as well as finishing second on the day in tackles with 11, inclucing 8 solos.
Justin Hipple and
Todd Hamer had seven tackles apiece.
