Volleyball -- Augsburg 3, Carleton 0 (story from Carleton Sports Information)
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (10/1/99) -- Augsburg College dealt Carleton a rapid one-hour, three-game defeat Friday in Carleton's West Gym. The Auggies improved their record to 6-11 and 2-2 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while Carleton fell to 2-14 overall and 0-4 in the MIAC.
Emily Walen (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) ran the Auggies' attack with 25 assists scattered among
Missy Carlson (Sr., Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS), who had nine kills,
Adrianne Rieger (Sr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS), who had seven, and
Angie Rieger (Jr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS),
Jessica Ness (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) and
Paula Pogatchnik (Fr., Finlayson, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS), who had five apiece. Carlson added six aces to her personal scoring drive.
Tiffany Lynch (Jr., Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) proved to be the backbone of the Auggie defense with 16 digs.
Emily Gottlieb (Fr., Seattle, Wash.) led the Knights with six kills and nine digs.
Carleton resumes action Saturday, Oct. 2, by hosting the College of St. Catherine, while Augsburg hosts Macalester. Both matches are at 3 p.m.
