The win was Gustavus' second in three tries against the Auggies this season -- with the visiting team winning each game. Gustavus won at Augsburg 80-69 on Dec. 9 (Augsburg's last loss prior to Saturday night), while the Gusties' last loss came in a home defeat by Augsburg, 57-56 on Jan. 27.

The Gusties' defense held Augsburg's All-America forward, Devean George (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret HS), to just five points in the second half and a total of 25 in the game. He added 11 rebounds for his 11th straight double-double (35th of his career). George now has 2,219 career points and 850 career rebounds, both second in school history. George is 52 points away from the school's scoring record, set by current coach Brian Ammann (2,271 points) when he played at Augsburg from 1981-85. The seven-point Augsburg lead, coming with 9:47 remaining in the second half, was the largest lead either team enjoyed in the game.

Down 65-62 in the last two mintues of play, George scored a putback basket to cut the lead to one, 65-64, with 1:20 remaining. Augsburg's Kris Long (Sr., Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) blocked a shot on Gustavus' next possession and pulled down the rebound with under 40 seconds to play, but the Auggies could not convert on several opportunities to score the potential game-winning basket in the final seconds. A turnover by Augsburg and a steal by Gustavus' Mark McDonnell (Sr., Minnesota Lake, Minn./Maple River HS)with five seconds remaining gave the Gusties the ball.
