ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/13/00) --
Paula Pogatchnik (So., Finlayson, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) led all players with nine kills and added three blocks (one solo), as Augsburg College claimed its second three-game sweep in a row, topping the College of St. Catherine in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Friday night at Si Melby Hall. Game scores were 15-2, 15-13, 15-6 in favor of Augsburg.
With the victory, Augsburg improves to 6-13 overall and 3-5 in the MIAC, while St. Catherine drops to 4-21 overall and 0-8 in the MIAC.
For the second match in a row, the Auggies used a balanced attack to claim the sweep. Four players had six or more kills, and the Auggies claimed nine blocks (six solo) in the match. In all, 11 Auggies saw action in the victory.
Cassi Van Ausdall (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) notched seven kills, a team-high 17 digs and a block solo, while
Lisa Miller (So., Buffalo, Minn.) had seven kills and two solo blocks.
Angie Rieger (Sr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS) had six kills and a team-high five blocks (two solo).
Kevina Nakiwala (So., Kampala, Uganda/Ashby, Minn., HS) scored four kills and 12 blocks, and
Emily Walen (Sr., Stillwater, Minn./Hastings HS) claimed 26 assists, three digs and three kills.
Augsburg plays at St. Mary's in an MIAC match Saturday (11/14) at 3 p.m. in Winona, Minn., while St. Catherine plays at Macalester on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
