MINNEAPOLIS (10/18/00) -- Augsburg College claimed its first three-game sweep of Bethel College since 1993, scoring a convincing victory in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Wednesday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.

Game scores were 15-11, 15-12, 15-7 in favor of the Auggies, who improve to 7-14 overall and 4-6 in the MIAC. Augsburg has won three of its last four matches in conference play. Augsburg opened up the game with a bang, leading 10-0 in the first game before the Royals rallied to tie the game at 11-11. But the Auggies pulled out the first-game win, converting 18 kills in the first game and 19 in the second to take the 15-12 decision. Augsburg claimed another big lead in the third game, 8-1, before Bethel rallied again. But the Auggies pulled away with solid hitting, converting 48 kills in the match -- the second-most in a three-game match this season -- with a .239 attack percentage.

Bethel was paced by Kristin Stoneberg (Fr., Marshall, Minn.) who had nine kills, 11 digs and two blocks. Janelle Nelson (Jr., Duluth, Minn.) had eight kills and Angie Frenell (Fr., East Moline, Ill.) had eight kills and three blocks. Julie Feltmann (Sr., Young America, Minn.) had 28 assists.
