MINNEAPOLIS (10/4/00) -- Steph Blanda (Sr., Maplewood, Minn./Tartan HS) had 13 kills and 10 digs to lead the University of St. Thomas to a three-game sweep of Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Wednesday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall. Game scores were 15-10, 16-14 and 15-10.
St. Thomas is now 13-7 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC, while Augsburg drops to 3-11 overall and 1-5 in the MIAC.
Katie Reynolds (So., Mora, Minn.) added 12 kills, eight digs and four blocks for the Tommies, who rallied for the sweep after dropping a five-game match to Bethel on Saturday. Kristin Pins (Fr., Dubuque, Iowa/Senior HS) had six kills and nine blocks (one solo), and Sarah Dierks (Jr., Faribault, Minn.) had seven kills and 11 digs. Jane Gibbs (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) had 41 assists.
Augsburg, which dropped its second match in a row and seventh match in its last eight, was paced by
Angie Rieger (Sr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS), who had 15 kills, nine digs and three blocks (one solo).
Cassi Van Ausdall (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had nine kills, six digs and three blocks (one solo), and
Paula Pogatchnik (So., Finlayson, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) had eight kills and two blocks.
Both Augsburg and St. Thomas will compete in the St. Thomas Tournament on Friday and Saturday (10/6-7) in St. Paul, Minn.
