MINNEAPOLIS (9/1/00) -- Amy Walters (Sr., Hopkins, Minn.) scored on a drive in the penalty box in the 30th minute, netting the only goal Grinnell College (Iowa) would need in a 1-0 nonconference women's soccer victory over Augsburg College Friday night at Augsburg's Anderson-Nelson Field. The game was the first for both teams this season.
Walters' goal came on an assist from Liz Graf (Sr., Clive, Iowa). Walters had nine shots on goal in the game.
Grinnell, the defending Midwest Conference champions, dominated play for most of the game, outshooting Augsburg by a 15-1 margin. However, the Pioneers could only get one shot past Auggie goalie
Laura Hoffman (Fr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS), who made nine saves in her collegiate soccer debut.
Amanda Bushman (Fr., Milwaukee, Wis.) picked up the shutout victory in goal for Grinnell.
Brenda Selander * (Sr., Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) had the lone shot on goal for Augsburg in the contest.
Augsburg plays at national runner-up Macalester to open the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule on Tuesday (9/5) at 7:30 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
