Volleyball 9/29/00 -- Augsburg 3, Carleton 0
MINNEAPOLIS (9/29/00) --
Angie Rieger (Sr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS) had 13 kills and 10 digs, one of three Augsburg College players with "double-doubles" as the host Auggies swept Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Friday night at Si Melby Hall. Game scores were 15-3, 15-5 and 15-10 in favor of Augsburg.
With the victory, Augsburg improves to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the MIAC, breaking a five-match losing streak. Carleton drops to 6-9 overall and 0-3 in the MIAC.
In addition to Rieger's double-double, two other Auggies accomplished the feat --
Kevina Nakiwala (So., Kampala, Uganda/Ashby, Minn., HS) notched 11 kills and 15 digs, and
Cassi Van Ausdall (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) notched 10 kills and 17 digs. Van Ausdall added four aces -- coming consecutively late in the first game.
Emily Walen (Sr., Stillwater, Minn./Hastings HS) had 35 assists to pace the Auggies.
Carleton was led by Lizzy Erickson (Fr., Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy), who had six kills, Emily Gottlieb (So., Seattle, Wash./The Bush School), who had four kills, and Katie Haldy (Fr., Broomfield, Colo.) who had three.
Augsburg plays at Macalester in an MIAC match on Saturday (9/30) at 5:30 p.m., while Carleton plays at St. Catherine Saturday at 3 p.m.
