Women's Soccer 10/13/01 -- Gustavus 5, Augsburg 1
ST. PETER, Minn. (10/13/01) -- Renee Beaudry had two goals and Gustavus Adolphus College dominated play, topping visiting Augsburg College 5-1 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game Saturday.
In improving to 8-5-0 and overall and 6-2-0 in the MIAC, Gustavus outshot Augsburg by a 45-4 margin. Augsburg dropped its second game in a row in falling to 5-7-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the MIAC.
Gustavus scored in the second minute, as Michelle Kurtz notched her conference-leading ninth goal of the season. Andi Johnson scored just before halftime, and the Gusties added two goals in the first four minutes of the second half, on goals from Tiffany Alstead and Beaudry.
After Augsburg's
Kristi Ofstad (So., Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Stevens HS) scored an unassisted goal in the 61st minute, Beaudry notched her second goal of the game in the 75th minute to complete the scoring.
Augsburg made 18 saves in the game, with starter
Laura Hoffman (So., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) making 10 saves and reliever
Sarah Sletten (So., Churches Ferry, N.D./Devil's Lake HS) making eight.
Both teams return to MIAC play on Tuesday (10/16), Gustavus hosting Bethel at 3:30 p.m. and Augsburg hosting St. Olaf at 7 p.m.
