NORTHFIELD, Minn. (10/2/01) --
Ashley Gebhart (Fr., La Crosse, Wis./Central HS) tallied the only goal of the contest in the 66th minute, sparking Augsburg College to a 1-0 victory over host Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game Tuesday afternoon.
The game went uneventfully in the first half, with neither team scoring any goals. The second half unfolded with an early goal by the Auggies and ended with a flurry of shot attempts by Carleton. Augsburg's
Laura Hoffman (So., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) made eight saves on the way to the victory.
The Auggies (4-5-1 overall, 2-2-1 MIAC) moved past Carleton on Gebhart's shot, one of six total shot attempts. It marked the Knights' first MIAC loss of the season and ended their five-match winning streak.
The Knights outshot Augsburg, 20-6, and the teams were even at three corner kicks each.
The loss dropped the Knights' record to 5-3-0 overall and 4-1 in the MIAC.
Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (10/6), hosting St. Catherine in a 1 p.m. contest at Edor Nelson Field. Carleton returns to action on Monday (10/8), traveling to conference foe St. Benedict at 1 p.m.
