MINNEAPOLIS (10/6/01) -- Katie Reynolds (Jr., Mora, Minn.) had a double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs to lead the University of St. Thomas to a three-game sweep of Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall. Game scores were 34-32, 30-15, 30-14.

The Tommies hit a strong .258 as a team (55 kills, 22 errors in 128 chances) to improve to 14-5 overall and 5-3 in MIAC play. Augsburg dropped to 7-12 overall and 4-4 in the MIAC with the loss.

Behind consecutive service aces from Emily Buehler (So., Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS), the Tommies held a 28-23 advantage in the first game. But Augsburg rallied to tie the game at 29-29 and eventually force extra play. However, kills from Jenny Smith (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS), Erin Keating (Jr., Fargo, N.D./North HS) and Jane Gibbs (So., Lakeville, Minn.) ended the game in favor of the Tommies, who had 21 kills in the set.

The Tommies cruised in the third game, stroking an impressive .412 attack percentage (17 kills, three errors in 34 chances) to claim the easy victory. Reynolds had five kills in eight attacks in the third game, while Smith and Kristin Pins (So., Dubuque, Iowa/Senior HS) had four kills each.

Reynolds hit .423 in the contest, while Smith had 13 kills, hitting at a .308 clip, and four blocks. Pins hit .400 in acumulating nine kills. Gibbs had 44 assists and Keating had seven kills and four blocks. Buehler contributed six kills, 13 digs and a game-high six service aces. Tessa Pitts (Fr., Fairmont, Minn.) had nine digs and four service aces.

Augsburg's attack woes continued, as it hit just .121 as a team, with only 29 kills and 17 attack errors. The Auggies remained strong in the block category, however, with 12 team blocks in the match.

Lisa Miller (Jr., Buffalo, Minn.) led the Auggies with seven kills and six blocks (one solo), while Kelly Larvick (Jr., Good Thunder, Minn./Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial HS) had six kills and five blocks (one solo). Laura Wagner (Fr., West Bend, Wis./West Bend West HS) had six kills and 11 digs.

Denise Foster (Jr., Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) had five kills and seven digs, Kristy Larson (Fr., Pine Island, Minn.) had four kills and four blocks, and Amy Degner (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins HS) had 20 assists, nine digs and four blocks (one solo).

Augsburg hosts Concordia-Moorhead in an MIAC match on Tuesday (10/9) at 7:30 p.m. at Si Melby Hall. St. Thomas returns to action on Wednesay (10/10) at 7:30 p.m., playing at St. Mary's.
