MINNEAPOLIS (12/1/01) -- Bethany Koehler (Sr., Superior, Wis.) scored 11 points and had two steals to lead Carleton College, as 11 of the 13 Knights who saw game action scored in a 59-38 rout of host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
Carleton, last year's MIAC playoff champions and an NCAA Division III playoff participant, moved to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in the MIAC. Augsburg dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in league play, losing its fourth game in a row.
The Knights outscored Augsburg by a 12-2 margin over the first 10 minutes of play and led 29-15 at halftime. The lead continued to build in the second half, as Carleton led by as many as 27 points before both teams emptied their benches to let reserves finish the game.
Renee Willette (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and Cara Jones (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) had nine points apiece for the Knights, with Jones adding seven rebounds and Willette adding five boards. Linnea Engel (So., Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) had seven points, and Karissa Kramer (Jr., Clearwater, Minn./Monticello HS) had a game-high eight rebounds.
Augsburg was limited to just 26.7 percent shooting (16-of-60) and was outrebounded by a 54-36 margin.
Julie Andert (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) came off the bench to lead the Auggies in scoring, wtih seven points and seven rebounds.
Kelly Chapman (So., Willernie, Minn./Mahtomedi HS), who entered the game averaging 14.8 points per game, was limited to six points.
Jennie LaManna (Sr., South St. Paul, Minn.) had five points, and
Allison Illa * (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) had four points and six rebounds.
Carleton returns to MIAC action on Monday (12/3) with a 7:30 p.m. game at St. Catherine, while Augsburg returns to MIAC action on Wednesday (12/5) with a 5:30 p.m. game at Concordia-Moorhead.
