MINNEAPOLIS (12/15/01) -- Lance Reinke (Sr., Hull, Iowa) fell one rebound short of a triple-double, with 12 points, 14 assists and nine rebounds, leading five Northwestern College (Iowa) starters in double figures in an 81-64 victory over host Augsburg College in a nonconference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

Reinke was one of two Red Raiders who ended up with double-doubles, as Brandon Jacobson (Sr., Mapleton, Iowa) had 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, to go with two blocked shots.

Northwestern, the defending NAIA Division II national champions, improved to 11-1 overall. Northwestern is currently ranked second in the NAIA Division II national rankings. NCAA Division III Augsburg drops to 6-3 overall. After a 5-0 start to the season, the Auggies have lost their last two games and three of their last four entering the holiday break.

Northwestern led from start to finish on Saturday, bolting from the gate with a 10-4 run over the first four minutes of play. The Red Raiders would build the lead to as many as 13 points twice in the first half, but Augsburg stayed in the game and kept the contest in single digits for most of the period. But a 7-2 run in the last four minutes of the first half, keyed by six points from Jacobson, gave the Red Raiders a 39-27 lead at halftime.

A 12-1 run over a five-minute span midway through the second half gave the Red Raiders their largest lead, 21 points, at 59-38 with 10:26 left. The Red Raiders never let the lead dip below 10 points the rest of the way.

Northwestern's advantage in the game came in both shooting and rebounding. The Red Raiders connected on 50.9 percent of their field goals (29-of-57), while hitting 10 three-pointers. The Red Raiders outrebounded Augsburg by a 46-30 margin. Augsburg was limited to just 36.2 percent shooting from the field (25-of-69) and hit just 4 three-pointers.

Keith Ranschau (Jr., Rock Valley, Iowa) scored 15 points, Brandon Woudstra (Jr., Orange City, Iowa) had 13 points and seven rebounds, and Jerod Hoegh (Jr., Atlantic, Iowa) had 11 points for the Red Raiders.

Augsburg was paced by forward Noah Shadis (Fr., Grantsburg, Wis.), who had 16 points in his first collegiate start. Nick Peters (Jr., St. Peter, Minn./Nicollet HS) had 14 points and five rebounds, and Dwayne Starr (So., Richfield, Minn.) had 13 points, three assists and four steals. Zac Rosen (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./West Lutheran HS) led the Auggies in rebounding, with seven.

Both teams now take a break for the holidays. Northwestern returns to action with two games in California Dec. 28-29, playing at Concordia (Irvine, Calif.) on Dec. 28 at 5 p.m. Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Jan. 2, with a 7:30 p.m. game at Macalester.
