Jay Howard (So., Burnsville, Minn.) notched his second double-double of the season with 19 points and 17 rebounds, and Dwayne Starr (So., Richfield, Minn.) scored 20 points and had eight rebounds and five steals, as Augsburg College rallied in the second half for a 76-63 win over Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
Howard had 13 points and 11 rebounds in the second half, as Augsburg rallied from a 35-30 halftime deficit to improve to 6-1 overall, 2-1 in the MIAC. Hamline drops to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in MIAC play.
A 14-3 run in the first five minutes of the second half, keyed by four points apiece from Starr and Howard, gave the Auggies a 44-38 lead, an advantage the Auggies would build to as many as 18 points midway through the second stanza.
Nick Peters (Jr., St. Peter, Minn./Nicollet HS) and
Adam Kotewa (Jr., Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) had 12 points apiece for the Auggies, who shot 47 percent (16-of-34) in the second half and outrebounded Hamline by a 52-48 margin.
Mike Robison (Sr., Richfield, Minn.) paced Hamline with a double-double, scoring 23 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. He had 15 points and five rebounds in the first half. B.J. Rossow (Fr., Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy HS) had 13 points, while Jerome Williams (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had 12 points, four assists and four steals.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday (12/12) at 7:30 p.m., Augsburg hosting St. Thomas and Hamline hosting St. Olaf.
