MINNEAPOLIS (9/19/01) --
Lisa Miller (Jr., Buffalo, Minn.) delivered 11 kills and six blocks, and
Amy Degner (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins HS) had nine service aces and 25 assists, leading Augsburg College to a three-game sweep of Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Wednesday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
Game scores were 30-23, 30-17, 30-26 in favor of the Auggies, who improved to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the MIAC, breaking a four-match losing streak. Hamline remained winless in eight overall games and two in conference play.
Miller hit a stellar .714 (11 kills, 1 error in 14 attempts) to lead the Auggies. As a team, the Auggies hit .196 (35 kills, 17 errors in 92 attempts) in the match, hitting a strong .273 in the second game and .222 in the first.
Degner ended the first game with a string of four straight service aces, and ended up with seven in a nine-point serving stretch spanning the first and second games. Her nine total aces were the most in a single match by an Auggie this season.
Laura Wagner (Fr., West Bend, Wis./West Bend West HS) notched nine kills, five service aces and six digs for the Auggies, while
Kim Jeska (Jr., Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) had four kills and three digs.
Kelly Larvick (Jr., Good Thunder, Minn./Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial HS) had three blocks and
Anna Piermantier (So., Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) had six digs.
Hamline -- a team made up entirely of freshmen (seven) and sophomores (four) -- was hampered by hitting errors, as the Pipers hit .000 (23 kills, 23 errors in 83 attempts) as a team in the match. The Pipers also had 11 service errors, matching its ace total in the match.
Laura Fleischman (So., Lester Prairie, Minn.) led the Pipers with six kills and four digs, while Leah Erickson (Fr., Anoka, Minn.) had five kills and eight digs. Jessica Rice (Fr., Owatonna, Minn.) had four kills, seven digs and four service aces.
Both teams return to action on Friday night (9/21) at 7:30 p.m. in conference play, Augsburg playing at Macalester and Hamline hosting Bethel.
