ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/21/01) -- Melody Sakazaki (Jr., Tokyo, Japan/American School) had 16 kills and 12 digs, and Bethany Tate (Fr., Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park HS) had 12 kills and 17 digs, leading Macalester College to a three-game sweep of Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Friday night at Macalester Gym.

Game scores were 30-25, 30-25, 30-18 in favor of the Scots, who improved to 3-9 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC. Augsburg drops to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Neither team led by more than five points in the first two games, before the Scots pulled away in the final contest, using an 11-3 run to take a 19-13 lead, eventually pulling away to the 12-point victory.

Carley Bomstad (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) had 10 kills, eight digs and a team-high five blocks for the Scots, while May Lin Kessenich (Fr., Milford, Conn./Foran HS) had 10 digs and Sarah Graves (So., Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State HS) had 41 assists and four blocks (one solo).

Augsburg was limited to just a .094 attack percentage (39 kills, 27 errors in 127 attempts).

Laura Wagner (Fr., West Bend, Wis./West Bend West HS) paced the Auggies with 10 kills nad nine digs, while Lisa Miller (Jr., Buffalo, Minn.) had nine kills and Denise Foster (Jr., Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) had eight kills and nine digs. Amy Degner (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins HS) had 30 assists and a team-high 13 digs.

Both teams return to action on Saturday (9/22) at 3 p.m. in conference play, Augsburg playing at Carleton and Macalester playing at Bethel.
