NORTHFIELD, Minn. (9/22/01) -- Laura Wagner (Fr., West Bend, Wis./West Bend West HS) had a double-double with 23 kills and 19 digs, leading Augsburg College to its first five-game victory of the season, a 3-2 win over Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Saturday at Carleton's West Gym.

Augsburg won the match by scores of 30-25, 22-30, 32-30, 16-30 and 15-10 to improve to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC. The match was the first five-gamer of the season for the Auggies. Carleton drops to 10-6 overall and 1-3 in the MIAC.

Wagner, who hit .333 in the match, had three kills in the decisive fifth game, which also included two service aces by Anna Piermantier (So., Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS). Wagner was one of two players with double-doubles in the match; Lisa Miller (Jr., Buffalo, Minn.) notched 10 kills, 12 digs and four blocks (one solo).

Thirteen Auggies saw action in the match, with six players recording double-digit dig totals. Denise Foster (Jr., Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) had eight kills and 11 digs, Alli Burgess (So., Sudan, Minn./Tower-Sudan HS) had 12 digs and Piermantier had 14 digs to go wihth a team-high four service aces.

Amy Degner (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins HS) notched a season-high 45 assists, to go with 13 digs. Kristy Larson (Fr., Pine Island, Minn.) contributed seven kills and three blocks (one solo).

Carleton was paced by Beth Freeman's 16 kills, three blocks (two solo) and eight digs. Katie Freeman had 11 kills and three blocks (one solo) and Sarah Barrow had 13 kills. Alyssa Honnette had 18 digs, and Katie Haldy had 46 assists and 14 digs.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday (9/26) at 7:30 p.m. in conference play, Augsburg hosting Gustavus Adolphus and Carleton playing at St. Thomas.
