Women's Soccer 9/6/01 -- Augsburg 5, Crown (Minn.) 0
MINNEAPOLIS (9/6/01) --
Kim Glumich (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) scored two goals and
Ashley Gebhart (Fr., La Crosse, Wis./Central HS) had a goal and assist to lead the Augsburg College women's soccer team to its first win of the season, a convincing 5-0 shutout of Crown College on Thursday afternoon at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.
Augsburg picked up its first win of the season to improve to 1-2 overall, while the game was the season-opener for the Storm.
Glumich's goals, one on a free kick from 25 yards out and the other a header off a corner kick, bracketed a 30-yard goal from Gebhart in a two-minute, 43-second span late in the first half, which broke the game open.
Jazz Burch (So., Minnetonka, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) scored the first goal for the Auggies on a solid scoring play in the 27th minute, and
Kristen Lideen * (So., Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) completed the scoring by blasting a loose ball home in front of the net in the 72nd minute.
In scoring its first goals of the season after being shut out in its first two losses last weekend, the Auggies poured on the offense, gaining 31 shots to Crown's four. Augsburg controlled the tempo and kept the ball in the Crown end for most of the game.
Heidi Hilleren (So., Duluth, Minn./East HS) had two assists for the Auggies, with
Kristi Ofstad (So., Rapid City, S.D./Stevens HS) and
Jenny Martin (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) adding the other Auggie helpers.
Laura Hoffman (So., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) played the first half in goal for the Auggies, but didn't have to face a shot on net.
Sarah Sletten (So., Church's Ferry, N.D./Devils Lake HS) and
Kristin Opalinski (Jr., Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe HS) completed the shutout with stints in goal in the second half.
Kristin Kayser (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.) gave up three goals before being relieved in net by Megan Nelson (Fr., Monticello, Minn.) for the Storm. Mandy Reader (Fr., St. Anthony, Minn.) and Joy Maves (Fr., Phillippines) had two shots apiece for the visitors.
Augsburg returns to action with its annual alumni game on Saturday (9/8) at 11 a.m. at Edor Nelson Field. The Auggies play at Wisconsin-Superior on Tuesday (9/11) at 4 p.m.
