BOXSCORE
MINNEAPOLIS (10/11/02) --
Millie Suk (Fr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) continued her hot scoring streak for Augsburg College, scoring in the 63rd minute to give Augsburg a 1-0 win over Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game Friday night at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.
Suk scored her team-high seventh goal of the season on a feed from
Kristi Ofstad * (Jr., Rapid City, S.D./Stevens HS), moving Augsburg to 7-3-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the MIAC. Augsburg has now won five of its last seven games, and with seven games left to play, has already matched the team's win totals from the last two seasons. The Auggies have already secured the fourth-best season record in school history; the Auggies' school record is a 13-4 mark in 1995.
All seven Augsburg wins have been shutouts. Six of Augsburg's seven wins this season have been 1-0 decisions, with Suk scoring the game-winning goals in five games. Suk has seven of Augsburg's 10 goals and 15 of Augsburg's 25 points this season.
Carleton drops to 3-5-3 overall and 2-3-1 in the MIAC. The game was moved from its original starting date of Saturday at 7 p.m. to Friday, due to the threat of wintry weather on Saturday night.
In the 63rd minute, Ofstad sent the ball over the defense to Suk on the left wing, who shot the ball over Carleton goalkeeper Cara Jones (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS).
Carleton had several chances to score in the final 24 minutes, but were denied by Augsburg goalkeeper
Laura Hoffman * (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS), who had six saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season and 14th in her three-year career. She is in second place on the school's all-time record list for shutouts. Beth Petrik holds the school record with 26 career shutouts from 1995-98. Hoffman is now in fourth place in school history for single-season shutouts; Petrik had nine shutouts in 1997 for the record.
Carleton outshot Augsburg by a 13-7 margin, with Stella Schulte (Jr., Portland, Ore./Lincoln HS) collecting four shots and Amy Holmes (Jr., San Francisco, Calif./University HS) collecting three. Jones had three saves for the Knights.
Both teams return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Tuesday (10/15), with Carleton hosting Macalester at 3:30 p.m. and Augsburg hosting Hamline at 7 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
