St. Olaf sweeps Augsburg

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (10/23/02) -- Shannah Olson had a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, leading host St. Olaf College to a three-game sweep of host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Wednesday night at the Skoglund Athletic Center.

Game scores were 30-16, 30-27, 30-12. As a team, St. Olaf hit .260 to improve to 15-11 overall and 8-2 in MIAC play. Augsburg dropped its eighth match in a row to fall to 2-18 overall and 1-9 in MIAC play.

Olson hit .353, while Andrea Drapcho hit .438 in accumulating seven kills and two blocks. Ashley Novak had seven kills, 10 digs, three aces and two blocks. Danica Finseth hit .400 in compilint seven kills, a team-high four service aces and two blocks (one solo). Emily Ganzkow-Wold had five kills and three blocks, and Brie Mattson had 31 assists.

Augsburg was paced by Lisa Miller (Sr., Hanover, Minn./Buffalo HS), who had eight kills and four digs. Kristy Larson (So., Pine Island, Minn.) had six kills and three digs, and Anna Piermantier (Jr., Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) had 21 assists and seven digs.

Augsburg was limited to a .067 hitting performance, with just 24 kills and 18 errors. The Auggies were limited to just eight kills in the first game and five kills in the third contest.

Augsburg returns to action this weekend with games at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational on Friday and Saturday (10/25-26), while St. Olaf plays at crosstown rival Carleton next Wednesday (10/30) at 7:30 p.m.
