ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/10/02) -- Katie Stephens (Sr., Urbana, Ill.) scored on a six-yard shot in front of the net in the 37th minute Tuesday evening, giving host Macalester College a 1-0 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game at Macalester Stadium.
Stephens scored on a rebound from a shot from Claire Parisi (Sr., South Bend, Ind./John Adams HS) to give the Scots the win, improving to 3-0-2 overall and 1-0 in MIAC play. Augsburg drops to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC, its second straight 1-0 loss in conference play. The two goals given up in the two losses are the only goals Auggie goalkeeper
Laura Hoffman * (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) has given up this season.
Lisa Bauer (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) made three saves to pick up the shutout in goal for Macalester, which outshot Augsburg by a 13-5 margin, including a 9-2 edge in the first half.
Tia Chronis (Fr., Braham, Minn.) had two shots for Augsburg.
It was the second straight year Augsburg has held conference powerhouse Macalester to a 1-0 decision. The Scots have won the last five MIAC titles in a row.
Macalester extended its home-field winning streak to 52 straight matches with the win over Augsburg. The match was the first of six straight games on the road for the Auggies.
Augsburg returns to action next Tuesday (9/17) at 4 p.m. with a MIAC contest at St. Mary's. Macalester returns to action on Friday (9/13) with a 6 p.m. home match against Wisconsin-Stevens PoInt.
