MINNEAPOLIS (9/18/02) -- Ashley Dingels (So., Gibbon, Minn./Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop HS) had 11 kills and four blocks (one solo), leading St. Mary's University to an easy sweep of host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.
Game scores were 30-15, 30-20, 30-13 in favor of the Cardinals, who improved to 8-6 overall. Augsburg is now 1-10 overall. It was the first MIAC match for both teams. The match lasted just one hour and six minutes.
The Cardinals took advantage of 25 Augsburg attacking errors and converted 13 service aces in the match, including five each by Tracy Koertgen (So., Crystal Lake, Minn./South HS) and Melissa Cowan (Sr., Algonquin, Ill./H.D. Jacobs HS). Cowan closed the first game with four consecutive aces, while Koertgen had four aces in a row in the third game.
Kirstan Rouzer (So., Comstock, Wis./Turtle Lake HS) had nine kills and two blocks, while Cowan added 34 assists and two blocks. Desiree Larson (Fr., Blaine, Minn./Centennial HS) had 11 digs.
Augsburg converted just 17 kills, nine by
Denise Foster (Sr., Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) and six by
Lisa Miller (Sr., Hanover, Minn./Buffalo HS). The Auggies had a minus-.105 attack percentage in the match.
Foster had four digs in the match.
Paula Pogatchnik (Sr., Finlayson, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) had four digs and two blocks (one solo).
Anna Piermantier (Jr., Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) had 15 assists.
Both teams return to action next Wednesday (9/25), Augsburg playing at Hamline and St. Mary's hosting Bethel.
