Augsburg demolished by national No. 6 Carleton, 82-27.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/25/03) -- Angie Grabowski (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Maple Grove HS) scored 12 points and sixth-ranked Carleton College held Augsburg College to 10 second-half points on three field goals in routing the Auggies, 82-27, in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Carleton's West Gym.

The point total was the lowest for a Carleton opponent in MIAC play. It marked the lowest overall output for a Carleton opponent since the Knights' first season, 1973-74, when Carleton held two opponents to 20 points. The 55-point margin was a school record for the Knights.

Fourteen different Knights scored in the contest. Karissa Kramer (Sr., Clearwater, Minn./Monticello HS), Katie Freeman (So., Richfield, Minn.) and Megan Vig (Fr., Northfield, Minn.) added nine points each for Carleton (16-0 overall, 13-0 MIAC). Linnea Engel (Jr., Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) chipped in with seven points, six steals and five assists.

Augsburg (4-12 overall, 3-10 MIAC) was paced by Alicia Pratt's (Jr., Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) 10 points, while Katie Kelsey (So., Burnsville, Minn.) had six points. No other play had more than three points.

Carleton forced 35 Augsburg turnovers, converting the Auggie miscues into 38 points. Carleton's bench outscored the Auggies' bench 43-7.

Carleton shot 55.7 percent for the game, including 64.5 percent (20-of-31) in the first half. Augsburg, meanwhile, struggled, connecting on only 10-of-48 shots (20.8%) for the game, 3-of-28 for the second half.

Leading by seven, 14-7, the Knights outscored the Auggies 16-2 to pull away from the visitors. The Knights led 48-17 at the break and continued to pull away in the second half.

The Knights, winners of 17 straight regular season games, dating back to last year, returns to action on Wednesday (1/29), hosting St. Catherine at 7:30 p.m. Augsburg also returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Macalester at 7:30 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
