ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (11/25/03) --
Lucas Olson-Patterson (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) scored 16 points and
Grant Hemmingsen (So., New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View HS) had 13 points and six rebounds, as Augsburg College rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to claima 65-52 victory over Crown College in a nonconference men's basketball game Tuesday night at Crown.
Trailing 27-24 at halftime, Augsburg outscored the Storm 41-25 in the second stanza, shooting 53.8 percent (14-of-16) from the field and outrebounding the hosts 15-8. Augsburg is now 2-1 on the season, while Crown drops to 1-5.
Crown led by as many as eight points in the first half -- 24-16 with 6:27 left. But Augsburg slowly took control of the game, outscoring the hosts 21-12 over a 10-minute span to take a nine-point lead, 57-48, with 3:47 left. Augsburg committed 20 turnovers, but forced 13 steals off of 26 Crown miscues -- 16 turnovers in the second half.
Marcus "Rico" Gholson (Sr., Gary, Ind./William A. Wirt HS) had 12 points, five rebounds and four steals for the Auggies.
Casey Zilka (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) score nine points and had six rebounds,
Zac Rosen (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./West Lutheran HS) had eight points, and
Yarzue Slowon (Jr., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had five points, six assists and four steals.
Crown was led by Joel Svec, who had 17 points, hitting four 3-pointers. He scored 11 points in the first half. Michael Thoreson had 10 ponts and four assists.
Augsburg has the Thanksgiving break off and opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next Wednesday (12/3) with a 7:30 p.m. game at Gustavus Adolphus College. Crown plays another MIAC opponent in nonconference action, playing at Hamline on Saturday (11/29) at 8 p.m.
