Selina Theisen (Fr., Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) and
Julie Andert * (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) both had double-doubles for visiting Augsburg College, but it was not enough as the University of Wisconsin-Superior rallied for a 66-57 win over the Auggies in a nonconference women's basketball game Sunday afternoon at the Clough Gates Gymnasium.
Theisen had her second-straight 20-point game, scoring 26 points and pulling down 10 rebounds for her first career double-double, while Andert had 11 points, five assists and a career-high 20 rebounds, scoring her second career double-double.
Augsburg remains winless at 0-3 overall, while Wisconsin-Superior improves to 3-1 with its second straight win.
For the second straight game, Theisen dominated play in the first half, scoring 18 points as Augsburg jumped out to a 37-34 halftime advantage, leading by as many as six points in the first stanza.
But the Yellowjackets opened the second half with a 13-2 run, taking a 47-39 lead at the 15:30 mark, an advantage they would not relinquish and eventually build to as many as 10 points down the stretch. Lindsey Anderson had seven of her team-high 17 points in the 13-2 run. She added eight rebounds and six assists to lead the Yellowjackets.
Shawna Johannes added 16 points, four rebounds and five steals for Wisconsin-Superior, while Stephanie Janigo and Katie Galovich had eight points and six rebounds apiece, Janigo adding two blocked shots and Galovich adding four assists. Molly Ray had six points and seven rebounds.
Theisen had two blocked shots for the Auggies.
Emily Dexter (Jr., Cameron, Wis.) had seven points, eight rebounds and two steals, and
Ashley Sasek (Jr., Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) had six points, four steals, three assists and four rebounds.
Augsburg played without guard
Emily Anderson (So., Hudson, Wis.), who suffered a sprained ankle in the Auggies' loss to Northwestern-Roseville on Saturday.
Augsburg shot just 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from the field, including just 11.1 percent (2-of-18) from three-point range. Augsburg outrebounded Wisconsin-Superior by a 51-40 margin, but turned the ball over 29 times, compared to just 18 turnovers for Wisconsin-Superior. Meanwhile, Wisconsin-Superior shot 35.3 percent (24-of-68) from the field and connected on seven 3-pointers in 29 tries.
Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a home game against Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday (12/3) at 7:30 p.m. at Si Melby Hall. Wisconsin-Superior opens Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Tuesday (12/2) at 7 p.m. at Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wis.
