Women's Basketball 2/1/03 -- St. Benedict 94, Augsburg 59

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (2/1/03) -- Danni Hannon scored 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds, and Michelle Barlau and Leah Laurich had 15 points apiece, leading the College of St. Benedict to a 94-59 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at CSB's Claire Lynch Hall.
The Blazers scored the first 11 points of the game and never looked back, leading 52-30 at halftime and stretching the lead to as many as 39 points in the second half to improve to 17-2 overall and 14-2 in MIAC play, winning their fifth game in a row.
Meanwhile, Augsburg's losing streak has reached a season-long eight games, in falling to 4-14 overall and 3-12 in MIAC play.
Eighteen Blazers saw playing time in the rout, and 13 scored. St. Benedict connected on 47.9 percent of its field goals (35-of-73) and took advantage of 26 Augsburg turnovers, scoring 31 points off the miscues.
Despite the big loss, Augsburg set a single-game school record, connecting on 11-of-21 three-pointers. The mark broke the old school record of nine, set twice before.
Augsburg's
Katie Kelsey (So., Burnsville, Minn.) hit five three-pointers, the third-most in a single game in school history (the record is seven, set by Rachael Ekholm in a 1999 game). Kelsey scored a career-high 19 points to lead all scorers, hitting 6-of-9 from the field. She also had four rebounds.
Alicia Pratt (Jr., Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) had 10 points and five rebounds, and
Britni Morgan (Jr., Brooklyn Center, Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had eight points, hitting two 3-pointers.
Augsburg returns to MIAC action on Monday (2/3) at 7:30 p.m., hosting St. Thomas at Si Melby Hall.
