Women's Soccer 9/17/03 -- Augsburg 1, Hamline 0
BOXSCORE
ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/17/03) --
Emily Anderson (Fr., Hudson, Wis.) scored the lone goal of the game in the 51st minute, and
Laura Hoffman (Sr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) claimed her 21st career shutout in goal for Augsburg College, as the Auggies claimed a 1-0 win over host Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game Wednesday afternoon at Pat Paterson Fields.
Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 26-4 margin, including a 10-0 margin in the first half, as the Auggies could not capitalize with the benefit of a strong wind in their favor.
But six minutes into the second half, Anderson scored her team-leading third goal of the season on an unassisted tally, the only goal the visitors would need. Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 16-4 margin in the second half, and had 13 corner kicks to Hamline's one. Anderson had 10 shots -- six on goal -- in the game, while
Kristi Ofstad (Sr., Rapid City, S.D./Stevens HS) had eight shots -- four on goal.
Augsburg is now 4-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in MIAC play, with all four wins coming by shutout. Hamline is now 3-4-0 on the year and 0-2-0 in MIAC play.
Hoffman had to make just two saves to score the win, her fifth shutout of the season. Her 21 career shutouts are second in school history to Beth Petrik, who had 26 from 1995-98.
Betsy Seal (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.) made 11 saves for Hamline.
Both teams return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday (9/20), with Hamline hosting St. Catherine at 1 p.m., and Augsburg hosting Bethel at 6 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
