Women's Soccer 9/20/03 -- Augsburg 4, Bethel 1

MINNEAPOLIS (9/20/03) --
Kristi Ofstad (Sr., Rapid City, S.D./Stevens HS),
Heidi Hilleren (Sr., Duluth, Minn./East HS) and
Millie Suk (So., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had a goal and assist apiece in the second half, leading Augsburg College to a 4-1 victory over Bethel College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game Saturday evening at Augsburg's Edor Neson Field.
Goalkeeper
Laura Hoffman (Sr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) also claimed her first career assist on a long feed for a score, as Augsburg improved to 5-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 in MIAC play.
Bethel drops to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in MIAC play. The Royals have been outscored by a 20-6 margin this season.
Augsburg outshot Bethel by a 27-8 margin in the game. However, the game was scoreless at halftime, despite Augsburg claiming a 13-5 shot advantage in the period.
The Auggies struck quickly in the second half, as Ofstad found an open net after a corner kick by Hilleren in the 49th minute. In the 59th minute,
Nora Austin (So., St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) got free on a feed from Ofstad and scored her first goal of the season.
Hoffman claimed her first collegiate assist on a long free kick, finding a streaking Suk, who fired a goal from 25 yards out in the 61st minute.
Hoffman made five saves in 76 minutes of work, not giving up a goal before being relieved by
Sarah Sletten (Sr., Churchs Ferry, N.D./Devils Lake HS).
Bethel scored its only goal of the game in the 77th minute, as Kate Nordbye (Sr., Portland, Ore./Franklin HS) scored on a feed from Stephani Spacone (Jr., Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates HS).
Hilleren capped the scoring with her third goal of the season in the 89th minute, as she took a feed from Suk and beat a defender in the penalty box for the score.
Jennie Pulford (Jr., Richfield, Minn./Richfield Academy HS) made 10 saves in a losing effort for the Royals.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday (9/24). Bethel hosts St. Catherine at 4 p.m., and Augsburg hosts Concordia-Moorhead as part of a men's/women's soccer doubleheader at Edor Nelson Field. The men's game is at 4:30 p.m., with the women's game following at 7 p.m.
