Men's Basketball 1/17/04 -- Concordia-Moorhead 69, Augsburg 57

MINNEAPOLIS (1/17/04) -- Keith Eckhoff (So., Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) scored 13 points, with four rebounds, three assists and three steals, to lead a balanced Concordia College-Moorhead scoring attack in a 69-57, come-from-behind victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.
Concordia used a 20-3 run over a nine-minute span midway through the second half to take a commanding 17-point lead, 65-48 with 3:19 left. Nathan Ohme (Sr., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) led the Cobbers with five of his 11 points in the game-deciding scoring run.
Four Cobbers scored in double figures, with Ohme adding three assists, two steals and four rebounds to go with his 11. Josh Downey (Sr., Bigfork, Mont.) also had 11 points, adding six rebounds. Joe Bueckers (Sr., Pine River, Minn./Pine River-Backus HS) had 10 points and five assits.
Meanwhile, Augsburg had 10 players score, but just one in double figures -- Larry Burgess (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./North HS) with 10 points. Augsburg was playing without its leading scorer,
Lucas Olson-Patterson (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS), who missed the game due to injury.
Yarzue Slowon (Jr., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had nine points, six assists and two steals, while
Josh Klem (Jr., Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul HS) had nine points off the bench, hitting three 3-pointers.
Grant Hemmingsen (So., New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View HS) scored eight points, with four rebounds and six steals.
Concordia outrebounded Augsburg by a 34-20 margin and also held the advantage at the free-throw line, hitting 17-of-21 compared to just 3-of-6 by Augsburg. Augsburg was whistled for 22 fouls, while Concordia committed just 10. The game featured nine ties and four lead changes.
Concordia returns to action on Monday (1/19), hosting St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m. Augsburg begins the second half of MIAC play on Wednesday (1/21), hosting league-leader Gustavus at 7:30 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
