NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/24/04) -- Megan Vig (So., Northfield, Minn.) scored 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists and Kate Krueger (Jr., Kirkland, Wash./Seattle Prep HS) added a career-high 14 points, including 3-for-4 from three-point range, as 15th-ranked Carleton College rolled past Augsburg College, 84-55 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Carleton's West Gym.
The Knights (15-1, 12-1 MIAC) won for the 32nd time in their last 35 conference home games by making eight of 13 three-pointers, including all five of their attempts in the second half, and outscoring the Auggies 50-31 in the second half.
Kristi Colbenson (Jr., Rushford, Minn./Rushford-Peterson HS) chipped in with 12 points and five boards for Carleton. The eight three-pointers made was the fourth most in school history and the 61.5 three-point percentage was the second best all-time.
Selina Theisen (Fr., Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) paced Augsburg (3-13, 3-10 MIAC) with 23 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots, making 15-of-22 free throws. Theisen notched her MIAC-high 10th double-double of the season, her sixth in her last eight games. Theisen has now scored in double figures in her last 15 straight games and has scored 20 or more points in nine games, including five of her last six.
Ashely Sasek (Jr., Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) was also in double figures for Augsburg with 12 points.
Ashley Vossen (So., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) had eight points and three steals.
The Auggies hung tough with Carleton early on, tying the game six times in the first 12:34, the final time on a Sasek three-point play. The Knights closed the half on a 16-6 spurt to take a 34-24 lead and scored 12 of the first 14 points of the second half, pushing the lead to 46-26 three minutes into the second half. Katie Freeman (Jr., Richfield, Minn.) knocked down a pair of triples during the run and Vig added five points, including a three-pointer. Carleton extended its lead to as many as 34 points in cruising to its eighth consecutive win over the Auggies.
All 10 Carleton players that dressed scored for the Knights for the second consecutive contest. Linnea Engel (Sr., Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) added eight points, eight rebounds and six assists. The rebound total moved her past the 500-rebound mark for her career. She is the 11th Carleton player to reach the milestone. Freeman added nine points for Carleton.
Both teams return to MIAC action on Wednesday (1/28) at 7:30 p.m. Augsburg plays at Macalester, while Carleton hosts St. Catherine.
