Another second-half lead lost, Augsburg falls 72-71 to Finlandia (Mich.) at Wisconsin-Superior Tournament

SUPERIOR, Wis. (11/20/04) – Victor Harrington scored 19 points and added eight rebounds and four blocked shots, hitting the game-winning three-pointer with 40 seconds remaining in the game, as Finlandia University rallied from a second-half deficit to topple Augsburg College 72-71 in the third-place game of the University of Wisconsin-Superior Perkins Tip-Off Classic men's basketball tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Gates Gymnasium.

For the second straight game, Augsburg surrendered a big second-half lead, as the Auggies fell to 0-2 on the season. On Friday night, Augsburg lost a 17-point second-half lead in a 58-57 loss to St. Scholastica; on Saturday, it was an 11-point second-half lead.

Augsburg led 37-28 at halftime and built the lead to 41-30 with 17:43 remaining in the game. A 9-2 run over a three-minute span midway through the half enabled Finlandia (1-1 overall) to tie the game at 52-52 with 9:07 left, but Augsburg built the lead back up to seven points, 67-60, with 3:53 remaining. Finlandia outscored Augsburg 12-4 down the stretch, however, with Harrington scoring six of the Lions' last eight points of the game.

Augsburg went to the line with 28 seconds left, but missed both free throws. But on Finlandia's next possession, the Lions also missed both free throws after Augsburg fouled to stop the clock with 26 seconds left. On Augsburg's final possession, the Auggies missed two field-goal attempts to win the game, including a three-point try at the buzzer.

Lucas Olson-Patterson (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) led all players with a double-double, claiming 22 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Justin Kozlowski (Fr., Wausau, Wis./Wausau Newman HS) had 12 points and four assists, and Devin Rose (Fr., Granton, Wis.) had 11 points and three assists. Dan Graf (So., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) had nine points and four rebounds off the bench.

Kyle Miron had 19 points and five assists for Finlandia, while Tyler Lloyd had 17 points and Ryan Artley had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Augsburg returns to action with a nonconference game against Crown (Minn.) on Tuesday (11/23) at 7:30 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
