Augsburg wins second MIAC game in a row, 75-65 at St. Mary's!

WINONA, Minn. (12/4/04) -- Lucas Olson-Patterson (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) led four Augsburg College players in double figures with 19 points and eight rebounds, leading the Auggies to their second win in a row with a 75-65 triumph over host St. Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball contest Saturday at the SMU Gym.

Jonathan Gholson (Jr., Gary, Ind./William A. Wirt HS) added 15 points and six rebounds for the Auggies, now 2-3 overall and 2-0 in MIAC play.

Dan Kloak led the Cardinals (0-4 overall, 0-1 MIAC) with 25 points and four rebounds, while Eric Lear came off the bench to score 23 points with five rebounds. The Cardinals had to play most of the game without their leading scorer, guard Jeff Tendall, who was injured two minutes into the game and did not return.

A 19-4 run over a seven-minute span gave Augsburg a 23-9 lead midway through the first half, an advantage that held for most of the frame, as Augsburg led 37-24 at halftime. The Auggies continued to hold the lead through the rest of the game, with the lead only dipping into single digits twice in the second half.

Dan Graf (So., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) scored 10 points for the Auggies, who had 10 playsers see action and nine score. Kevin Keto (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) scored 11 points with three assists and two steals. Zac Rosen (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./West Lutheran HS) had seven points.

Augsburg had one of its strongest shooting games in recent memory, hitting 49.0 percent (24-of-49) from the field. Olson-Patterson connected on three 3-pointers for the Auggies..

Both teams return to MIAC play on Monday (12/6) at 7:30 p.m., with Augsburg hosting Bethel at Si Melby Hall and St. Mary's playing at Macalester.
