BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS (9/12/04) -- Goalkeeper Liz Osterman (Fr., Lincoln, Neb./Southeast HS) made 12 saves to earn the first victory and first shutout of her collegiate career, leading Augsburg College to a 1-0 win over visiting Grinnell College (Iowa) in a nonconference women's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

Millie Suk * (Jr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) scored the lone goal of the game in the 17th minute, on an assist from Emily Anderson (So., Hudson, Wis.), as Augsburg picked up its first win of the season after starting the year with three losses in a row.

Grinnell, defending champions from the Midwest Conference, suffered its first loss in falling to 3-1. The game was Augsburg's second against a defending conference champion this year; on Sept. 4, the Auggies lost to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Wisconsin-River Falls 1-0.

Grinnell outshot Augsburg by a 23-14 margin, including a 15-8 edge in the first half, and had seven corner kicks to Augsburg's two. But Osterman came up with several big saves and benefitted from a Grinnell shot that hit the goalpost just before halftime.

Suk notched her first goal of the season in the 17th minute, picking up a centering pass off a right-side drive by Anderson at the top of the penalty box and firing it past Grinnell goalkeeper Liz Carrier (So., Pittsburgh, Pa.).

The goal was the first given up by Grinnell this season; the Pioneers had won their first three games by shutout and extended their scoreless streak to 286 minutes before Suk's tally. Grinnell has outscored its opponents by a 12-3 margin so far this season.

Kara Moskowitz (Jr., Wooster, Ohio) had seven shots for Grinnell, while Rachel Moskowitz (Jr., Wooster, Ohio) and Hannah Sayle (Fr., Memphis, Tenn.) had four shots each. Carrier had four saves on the afternoon.

Suk had six shots for Augsburg, while Aili Brom-Palkowski (So., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS), Mitra Rahimi (Fr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Anderson had two shots each.

Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Tuesday (9/14) at 7:30 p.m., hosting Hamline at Edor Nelson Field. Grinnell opens its Midwest Conference season on Saturday (9/18) at 11 a.m., hosting Beloit (Wis.).
