MINNEAPOLIS (9/22/04) --
Millie Suk * (Jr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) scored two goals and added an assist, leading Augsburg College to a 4-1 victory over St. Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer match on Wednesday night at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.
Augsburg outshot St. Mary's by a 27-9 margin in claiming its third straight victory 3-3-0 overall, 2-1 in MIAC play. St. Mary's drops to 2-5-1 overall, 0-2 in MIAC play.
Augsburg dominated play from start to finish, claiming seven corner kicks to none for the Cardinals.
The Auggies jumped on top in the 13th minute, when
Noreen Hogan (Fr., Moline, Ill./Alleman HS) stole the ball near midfield and popped a pass over the defense to Suk, who sprinted and scored from 20 yards out.
Six minutes later,
Emily Anderson (So., Hudson, Wis.) claimed her team-high fourth goal of the season, popping in a goal off a corner-kick feed from
Becky Lewis (So., Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall HS).
St. Mary's cut into the Auggie advantage in the 36th minute, when Amy Cory (Fr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South HS) got a steal, dribbled forward and popped a shot in the net from 20 yards out.
But Augsburg notched two goals in a nine-minute span midway through the second half to put the game out of reach. Off a corner kick,
Amanda Dock (Fr., Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall HS) got off a shot that St. Mary's goalkeeper Jennifer Johnson (Fr., Racine, Wis./Horlick HS) deflected, but Anderson got a rebuond touch pass to Suk, who slammed it in the net from the left corner.
In the 73rd minute, Augsburg closed the scoring, as Suk got a steal and fed the ball to
Mitra Rahimi (Fr., Eden Prairie, Minn.), who scored her first collegiate goal on a shot over the goalkeepers arms from the top of the penalty box.
Johnson made 10 saves in a losing effort for the Cardinals. Augsburg's
Liz Osterman (Fr., Lincoln, Neb./Southeast HS) had three saves in the victory.
Both teams return to action with nonconference doubleheaders on Saturday (9/25). Augsburg plays at St. Scholastica, with the women's game at 1 p.m., and the men's game at 3 p.m. St. Mary's hosts Marian (Wis.), with the women's game at 1 p.m. and the men's game at 3 p.m.
