ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/25/04) -- The Macalester College volleyball team defeated Augsburg College 30-20, 30-25 and 30-24 Saturday to improve to 2-1 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and 4-10 overall. The Scots posted a season-high .402 hitting percentage, with Lauren Eberhart (So., Madelia, Minn.) leading the way. Eberhart smashed 22 kills in the three games with a.476 hitting percentage.
Briana Keefe-Oates (Fr., Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) contributed 46 assists and May Lin Kessenich (Sr., Milford, Conn./Foran HS) had 19 digs to lead the back-row effort.
Maggie Buttermore (Jr., Lincoln, Neb./East HS) had four blocks and three serving aces. Bonnie Driscoll (So., LeMars, Iowa/Gehlen Catholic HS) provided the winners with 13 kills and a .632 hitting percentage on 13 kills, and Bethany Tate (Sr., Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park HS) had 11 kills.
Augsburg (7-9 overall, 0-4 MIAC) was led by
Alexis Johnson (Jr., Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) with 20 assists and
Linnea Evans * (Jr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) with seven kills and 13 digs.
Billie Painschab (Jr., Howard Lake, Minn./Howard Lake-Waverly HS) had five kills and 15 blocks.
Both teams have matches in Northfield, Minn., on Wednesday (9/29) night at 7:30 p.m. Macalester travels to Carleton, while Augsburg travels to St. Olaf.
