Augsburg swept at St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (9/29/04) -- Andrea Otteman had 13 kills, eight digs and two blocks to lead St. Olaf College to a three-game Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball sweep over visiting Augsburg College on Wednesday night at the Skoglund Center.

St. Olaf won by scores of 30-11, 30-21, 30-22 to improve to 5-8 overall, 1-4 in MIAC play. Augsburg drops to 7-10 overall, 0-5 in MIAC play, losing its fourth straight match.

The Oles hit .340 as a team, committing just 14 errors in 100 attempts with 48 kills. Meanwhile, Augsburg hit just .056, with 32 kills and 26 errors in 108 attempts. Augsburg could also manage just one block in the match.

Rebecca Anderson had 10 kills and four blocks (one solo) for the Oles, while Ashley Dennis had nine kills and two service aces. Danica Finseth had seven kills, six digs and a solo block. Audrey Volstad had 40 assists, eight digs and a block assist.

Augsburg was led by Billie Painschab (Jr., Howard Lake, Minn./Howard Lake-Waverly HS), who had 12 kills and just two errors in 27 attempts, hitting .370. Kristy Larson * (Sr., Pine Island, Minn.) had seven kills and a solo block.

Sarah Bradley (Fr., International Falls, Minn.) had six kills, and Alexis Johnson (Jr., Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) contributed 29 assists and seven digs.

St. Olaf competes this weekend at the Simpson (Iowa) Invitational. Augsburg has a week off before returning to MIAC play with a home match against Hamline next Wednesday (10/6) at 7:30 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
